PhD student position (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 50%) in Evolution and Ecology
The Institute of Evolution and Ecology at the Department of Biology announces a position for a highly motivated PhD- student in Reef Fish Species Identification and Diversity (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 50%) limited for three years.
The Animal Evolutionary Ecology group has a long tradition of field courses and research in temperature and tropical marine environments (Corsica, Red Sea, Sulawesi). Due to our long-standing expertise in identification and documentation of reef fish species, we now want to focus explicitly on biodiversity assessment and documenting change in species-rich reef fish communities on site in the face of climate change. PhD supervision is embedded in the graduate programme EVEREST.
We are looking for enthusiastic scientists with a MSc (or equivalent) in Biology, ideally with experience in field identification of marine species. Advanced English communication skills as well as excellent teamwork abilities are expected. A SCUBA diving qualification at the level of Rescue Diver or higher is expected. Experience with underwater photography is an asset.
This is an institutional position that includes a teaching requirement of 2 hours per week. The teaching subject is marine biology and will be agreed upon based on the expertise and interests of the successful candidate.
The University of Tübingen is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women to apply. Please send your application in English as a single pdf to nico.michiels@uni-tuebingen.de
The file should include (1) a letter of motivation including personal research interests, (2) a C.V., and (3) the names and email addresses of two references.
We accept applications until 28 February. The starting date is 1 April 2024 or later. Prof. Dr. N. Michiels, University of Tübingen, Department of Biology, Institute of Evolution and Ecology, Auf der Morgenstelle 28, 72076 Tübingen, Germany (nico.michiels@uni-tuebingen.de).
