SAVE THE DATE: 22nd Conference of the Society for Ichthyology (GfI) e.V. from 12 to 15 November 2026 at the Museum Koenig Bonn. Information: https://www.ichthyologie.de/gfi-tagung-2026/
Conferences of the German Ichthyological Society (GfI)
Alongside the Bulletin of Fish Biology and the GfI-Fish Atlas, the GfI conferences are the society’s most important forum for professional exchange. They cover topics relating to all aspects of ichthyology, such as:
- Fish biodiversity (regional and international)
- Morphology, physiology, ethology, evolution, systematics and taxonomy
- Fish species conservation,
- Scientific aquaristics and
- Applied fish ecology.
The conferences take place once a year at different locations in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and are also open to non-members.
In addition to interesting specialist presentations, the GfI conference offers a meeting place for communication with researchers and interested parties from all fields of ichthyology. In addition to breaks and poster sessions, icebreakers and social evenings also offer plenty of opportunity for personal exchange and extensive technical discussions. As far as possible, the conference also offers excursions to ichthyologically interesting destinations, tours of aquarium facilities with a look behind the scenes, or visits to informative exhibitions.
