21st Conference of the German Ichthyological Society (GfI e.V.)

at the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Technology Kaiserslautern–Landau (RPTU), Landau in der Pfalz,
9–12 October 2025

Once again, the conference featured exciting oral presentations and posters from all thematic areas and fields of ichthyology (morphology, ethology, aquaristics, physiology, fisheries, etc.), which were discussed intensively during the sessions and coffee breaks. Under the conference theme “Fish in a Changing World”, it became clear how rapidly almost all limnetic and marine waters are changing and what consequences this has for fish communities.

On the Conference Theme “Fish in a Changing World”

Global change is not only one of the central challenges facing the future development of humankind. Naturally, these processes of change also affect fish stocks and their environments worldwide. This is reflected, not least, in the growing importance of topics such as biodiversity loss, climate change and land-use change in ichthyological research. From local to global scales, particular emphasis was therefore placed on contributions addressing the theme “Fish in a Changing World”, which formed this year’s thematic focus.
