Ichthyological Information

Ichthyology means the study of fish – but how does that work?

The GfI, as the zoological society for fish, aims to promote ichthyological research! As in any specialized discipline, this often requires extensive expertise. This knowledge is frequently difficult to find, hidden away in hard-to-access journals or written in foreign languages.

This is what’s known today as a science-policy interface!

With the Ichthyological Information (as an element of Fish Fauna Online), we aim to present specialized knowledge in an understandable way, thus facilitating access to ichthyological research. In an international context, this is often referred to as the science-policy interface, the interface between science and practice.

At the GfI, we have both: science and practice, in addition to the activities of volunteers and hobbyists. Together, they make valuable contributions to ichthyological work and thus to the protection of fish biodiversity!
