German Ichthyological Society

Gesellschaft für Ichthyologie e.V. (GfI)

The German Ichthyological Society is an association of ichthyologists and enthusiasts from all fields of ichthyology, such as science, fisheries and aquatics.

The focus of its activities is on the scientific study of fish and the creation of a German-language, internationally networked forum for information, communication and publication in the field of ichthyology. This is to be achieved in particular through:

  • Organising annual conferences

  • Publishing the journal Bulletin of Fish Biology

  • Supporting young scientists

  • Publishing the GfI Fish Species Atlas.
