21st Conference of the German Ichthyological Society (GfI) e.V.
at the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) in Landau in der Pfalz from 9 to 12 October 2025
Once again, there were exciting presentations and posters covering all topics and fields of ichthyology (morphology, ethology, aquaristics, physiology, fisheries, etc.), which were discussed intensively during the sessions and coffee breaks. Under the conference motto ‘Fish in Global Change’, it became clear how rapidly almost all limnic and marine waters are changing and what consequences this has for fish communities.
Thanks
Our sincere thanks go to the RPTU Landau organisation team led by Ralf Schulz, Tanja Joschko and Thomas Schmidt for the perfect and thoughtful organisation of the conference!

About the conference theme ‘Fish in Global Change’
“Global change is not only one of the central challenges for the further development of humanity. Of course, these processes of change also affect fish stocks and their environment worldwide. This is reflected not least in the fact that topics such as biodiversity loss, climate change and land use change are also becoming increasingly important in ichthyological research. From the local to the global scale, contributions on the theme of ‘Fish in Global Change’ were therefore particularly relevant to this year’s thematic focus.”
