Support for small-scale projects
Funding guidelines available for download: Richtlinie_Foerderung_Kleinprojekte_20_11_19
What is being funded?
We support small-scale projects in all areas of ichthyology. Applications can be made, for example, for small equipment, laboratory costs or travel expenses for the implementation of specifically defined projects. Flat-rate funding for final theses, for example, is not eligible for support. The funding is intended as a one-off support and cannot be extended.
Who can apply?
Project funding is aimed at all ichthyological researchers with academic affiliations in German-speaking countries. All natural persons over the age of 18 are eligible to apply. Students may also submit an application, for example as part of their final thesis.
How do you apply?
A digital presentation of the project should be sent to the Head of Project and Young Talent Support, Dr Julia Schwarzer: j.schwarzer@leibniz-lib.de. It must clearly outline:
- What question is being addressed?
- What is the current state of research?
- What results are expected?
- Is the project part of a larger context (e.g. thesis, part of a larger project)?
- What amount is being requested and for what exactly?
- How will the requested support contribute to the implementation of the project?
- For what period or time frame is the funding being requested?
Applications should be between 2 and 6 pages long and structured as follows: 1. Project title, 2. Summary, 3. Objectives, and 4. Work and financial plan. Applicants agree that, if their project is funded, they will produce a final report of at least one page in length after the project has ended and make it available on the GfI website. Applications can be submitted at any time.
What else should be considered?
Please consider whether your project can support the GfI, e.g. through contributions to the Bulletin of Fish Biology, contributions to GfI conferences, or contributions to the website (e.g. excursion reports or, after the end of the project, descriptive project summaries that may be posted online). Our budget is limited. Please understand that if there is a high volume of applications, even very good applications may not be able to receive funding. If you have any questions or require justified exceptions to the above conditions, etc., please contact the Head of Project and Young Talent Support, Dr Julia Schwarzer:
